How the $250 deposit is charged and returned

When you book your first trip on Drive mate, $250 is charged to your card as a deposit. This will be charged once at the time you book your first trip. This deposit is required to be maintained for the first 3 trips and will be auto-refunded after your 3rd trip is completed. Alternatively, you can request to withdraw your deposit at any time easily from the app.

Why is a security deposit needed?

For first-time users, in order to protect the car owners, we charge an upfront security deposit of $250 only once. All guests are required to maintain a security deposit balance of $250 for the first 3 trips they take on Drive mate.

For e.g., if you book a car for the first time, you will be charged a security deposit of $250. When you book another car, then you won’t be charged again since we already have your deposit from the first trip.

How is the security deposit refunded?

  1. After you have completed 3 trips successfully, your deposit will be auto-refunded and you won’t be charged for deposit for any future trips.

  2. Alternatively, you can request to withdraw the deposit at any time.

    • Do note that a deposit refund will not take place while you are on an active trip.

    • Once you raise the refund request our team will review and refund the deposit within the next 24-72 hours.

    • If you have not completed 3 trips on the platform yet, then the next time you book a trip this security deposit will be charged again.

Please note that any refund requests once approved can take 5-7 business days to reflect on your card depending upon your bank.

Are the incidentals such as mileage, fuel etc settled against the security deposit?

No. Any incidentals or additional charges pertaining to your trip will need to be paid separately. The security deposit is intended to be refunded in full to you.

Why do i see my refund request as giving me an error of active trip?

If you have ongoing trip/ upcoming trip, the system will show you an error while requesting refund. You can request a refund once your trip is completed or automatically refunded after 3 successful trips.
